STIPRO TAKES PART IN COLLOQUIUM FOR JOURNAL AND BOOK PUBLICATIONS IN PRETORIA SOUTH AFRICA

The Science, Technology and Innovation Policy Research Organization (STIPRO) has presented a paper in the Colloquium for Journal and book Publications in South Africa.

Colloquium for Journal and book Publications is an academic seminar usually led by a different lecturer on a different topic about Science, Technology and Innovation at each meeting. It usually brings together Scholars and policy makers across the world working in the areas of political economy of regionalism, science, technology and innovation and changes in global economy.

Carrying the theme of Innovation Research for an Integrated African Development, this year colloquium was held at the Tshwane University of Technology in Tshwane/Pretoria, South Africa discussing important development issues from March 9-March 11, 2016

Presenting the paper titled Regionalism and Failure of the African Manufacturing Sector Technological Capability Building as a Missing Link, STIPRO Researcher and Communication Officer Constantine Deus, pointed out that the formation of regional integration in Africa had been instrumental in benefiting giant industrial players both within Africa and from outside Africa.

He argued that despite the fact that FDI inflows in Africa had been on the rise, structural transformation remains to be the most notable challenge.

“Structural transformation in the African context means transformation of the system of “production” from the existing one that is dominated by primary extraction and low value-added agriculture and services, to one in which high value is added with better linkages between economic sectors to the large extent “He explains.
